Summer Series: How to Decorate for the Holidays - Memorial Day

5 Ways to Celebrate and Decorate for Memorial Day Weekend

The last Monday in May is almost here and that means summer is (un)officially just around the corner! Not only does this patriotic holiday represent pool parties and sunshine, it also honors the lives of the United States Armed Forces personnel that have been lost during their service. This holiday typically is celebrated with parades and memorial services across the country. However, due to the pandemic, celebrations were cancelled last year. Now that your friends and family are getting vaccinated and ready for summer, a backyard barbecue could be the perfect way to celebrate!

Are you hosting a Memorial Day celebration and eager to start decorating your home? Here are our five tips to decorating for this historical weekend!

  1. Doubling for Fourth of July When it comes to shopping for cute Memorial Day signs and banners, many of these patriotic finds can be used twice during your summer holiday celebrations. Sticking to classic red white and blue décor will double the American pride for you and your guests this summer.

  2. Show your patriotism with an American flag An American flag is an easy way to add some color to the outside of your home for the holiday. Or even use mini ones inside your house as table decorations. Showing off these patriotic colors is a great way to pay tribute to those who have served our country, and what better way to do so than with an American flag.

  3. String Lights String lights can add so much to any outdoor space and will impress your guests. Once the sun goes down, these lights will speak for themselves and create beautiful scenery. Not only will these impress your guests, they will create a magical essence in your backyard all summer long!

  4. DIY Projects See something at a store that you think you could achieve yourself? Have fun and get creative! DIY projects are a great way to spice up your home on a budget. You can even get your kids involved to create unique and personalized gifts that will be memorable far beyond this summer!

  5. Mason Jars Keep your old apple-sauce jars and reuse them this weekend for a fun summer piece! These classic jars are great centerpieces, flower vases, or snack holders. Get creative and try this easy décor hack this weekend!
